MISSION/VISION STATEMENT

The LCMS Counseling Program provides a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program to inspire and challenge the academic, career, and personal/social needs of ALL students. With the collaborative effort of school personnel, families, and community resources and a supportive and restorative environment, the school counseling program will prepare every student in acquiring skills, knowledge, and the attitudes needed to become excellent students to thrive in a global community. We are Spartans.

Who Am I?

My name is Mrs. Hoiska and I have been a Spartan since 2004 and it is my passion to work with middle school students. A little bit about me– I attended University Wisconsin Green Bay and earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Development. Right after I graduated, I provided prevention education in schools as a Victim Advocate and then realized my passion for working directly in the schools. I went on to earn my master’s degree in School Counseling at Lakeland College. In my free time, I like to be out and about with my husband, family, and friends. I'm a foodie enthusiast who enjoys traveling to discover new destinations and immerse myself in the beauty of natural surroundings.

What Does a School Counselor Do?

In simple terms, a School Counselor provides support and help for ALL students in various areas, such as their school work, personal growth, and future career plans. This could involve talking to a counselor one-on-one, joining group discussions, learning about different career options, and getting support with personal and social issues. It's all about making sure students are successful in school and are prepared for their future.

What Services Do I Provide?

As a the LCMS School Counselor, my program provides direct student services, indirect student services, and program planning & school support.

Individual/group short-term counseling
Crisis Intervention
Consultation and Collaboration with families, school staff and outside agencies
Classroom Counseling Lessons
Academic and Career planning
8th grade transition including Spartan Summits

How Do Students Meet With Me?

Should you wish for me to speak with your student, please do not hesitate to either call or email. Please be aware that there may be a time when I may talk with your student due to a self-referral, student referral, teacher/staff referral, agency referral, or administrative referral.
